It was the year 1977 when our founder Billy Allen put the foundations of the current club in place through his association with Comber Methodist Church. After organising a series of friendly fixtures a decision was made in 1978 to move into the competitive arena and it was with this Comber Methodist Church Youth Club was formed. This subsequently went on to be known as Comber Young Men F.C.
Sadly on the 11th July 1989, 25 years ago this month, Billy’s life was sadly taken away following a fatal fall from scaffolding.
In the newspaper articles at the time, tributes such as the following were paid
‘Billy, and his Comber Y.M. football club, earned themselves a high regard in Down Area League circles, and the enthusiasm and endeavour which he brought to the local junior soccer scene will indeed be badly missed’.
As a club we will always be eternally grateful to the work and foundations Billy put in to the club and would like to pass on our deepest regards to the Allen family.
